Thompson 131 Zion Nat'l Park May 27, 1931. Drove alone up the tunnel road and out to the first road turning off to the left. Followed this about 4 miles out into juniper scrub oak pinon service berry and sage brush country. Passed 4 poor shacles. The area is over- grazed by sheep. But there is sufficient browse for deer. The vegetation was of the same distribution as far north as I could see, which was about 5 miles. Birds seen this morning: 1. Red-tailed hawk 3 2. Turkey Buzzard 2 3. Sage Thrasher ? 15 4. Mourning Dove 12 5. Loxhee Spotted 10 6. Chipping Sparrow 10 7. Woodhouse Jay 2 8. Vesper Sparrow 1 9. Eastern Mockingbird? 1 10. White Throated Swift 25 11. Violet Green Swallows 4 12. Great Kite-hawk 4
