Thompson 124. Grand Canyon May 8, 1931 Brown, at the checking station, said that trapping was very poor this last winter. Very little snow; pelts not prime. Relative to his trapping the winter before last, he said that he caught 4 Red Foxes: 2 at Phantom Ranch, 1 at Cottonwood & 1 at the head of Bright Angel Trail on the north ridge. Anthony does not give the Red Fox in this region. But Brown insisted that he had caught many Gray Foxes besides these Red Foxes. The question needs investigation. Later in the day, in an interview with Filleton & Chief Ranger Brokes, Filleton said that his mind was not definitely made up on the quest of predatory animal control. He said: "I've trap every winter & take it for ganted, but I'm not at all sure that we are doing the right thing. He feels that specific work should be done to find out just whether trapping is necessary. Both men think that Turkeys should be planted in Hermit Basin, Powell Plateau & Head of Bright Angel, with farms, turkeys & water are there.
