/13. Carlsbad Caverns Big Canyon April 24, 1931, Figon, Knight & Thompson Figon's view of the proposed extension of the Carlsbad National Park is this: Extend a narrow strip of territory, about 4 or 5 miles wide, from the cavern to the Guadalupe; they take in the Guadalupe south to the Point in Texas, including the yellow pine country & alport to the head of the mountain on the east for beccary sheep & quail. This would not go north of the Cavern. The region can support a great variety of wild life peculiar to this region, & is of no commercial value. The Lincoln Forest on top of the Guadalupe is already a game preserve. But added protection & reintro- duction is needed. Only trails should be built into the regio. It is the only wilderness / out area adjacent to all of Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana & is there strategically important.
