Carlsbad Caverns
Apr. 21, 1931
2:00 PM - 3:00 PM
building a nest in a tree
castry across the wash
in front of the administration
building. The nest was
6 1/2 ft. above the ground. It
is wholly made of dry grass
shaped like an olla,
turned on its side. It is
about 1 ft. long by 8" wide &
high, quite symmetrically
shaped. The two were
looked very nearly alike
in every respect. Both
birds worked, bringing in
gross & depositing it inside
the nest. They made trips
on an average of 5 min.
Each time they left the
nest, they flew to the top
of the castry, perched, and
looked around from a few
seconds to several minutes.
They never backed out of
the nest. They remained
in the nest each time they
a few seconds to a minute.
Both never entered in the
at once, but alternated.
