Mayhew 1957 April 6 Swainson Hawk West side of Salton Sea, Imperial Co., Calif. Over 100 of these birds were counted in a loosely attached group circling along highway 78 approximately 5 miles west of highway 99. These birds were seen sitting on the ground and on low perennial plants, as well as slowly circling in the air. We were able to approach a few of them quite closely. They were seen at 9:30 A.M.
