like soil, in places along the Canal a purple porphyry rock was exposed, and at times some yellow clay brown lake. After leaving Culebra cut the passed out into Canal plain with no more rock formation on high banks along the canal. At Perdu Miguel we passed out of another lock down to Mirafloreslake which is a very body water on the Pacific drainage. At Miraflores locks we descended by 2 locks to sea level on the Pacific side. The emptying process after levels seemed much slower than the filling took about 20 minutes there, not attended by any noise either. We reached Balboa at 6 p.m. and remained at the wharf all night. The party went to Panama after supper by trolley a distance of 5 miles or less perhaps. Panama is a typical Spanish city with very narrow crooked streets heavy stone masonry thick walls!
