The same brute had killed [illegible] full grown steers in the neighborhood. Saw no mammals nor heard any, A few birds were seen. Harers on the river, Paraguettes, Warblers & frigate birds in the harbour. A few crown pelicans were seen on the canal. 12: The party went out to the cocoa plantation near Caldera and with Barrett at 7 Am, returned about noon. I remained in town. 13: All remained in Colon 14 except Cook who went to Panama to visit Pittier, a U.S botanist recovering from an operation. 14: The party except me took the 11.00 train for Panama where they spent the day. 15: Packed our trunks at the hotel Washington & went on board the Chilean steamer Heronco which was loading at the Colon Pier a cristobal as the port is now called by
