along the green river valley. to Breguipia where we arrived at 5 P.M. All of the rock formation from the coast to the Breguipia country is said to be volcanic by H.B. It had the appearance of shaly sandstone and normally showed an oblique cleavage. Much of it was dark greenish in color like map or serpentine. Near Breguipia it was chiefly red or terra-cotta color. In places it was whitish or gray. Above Vitor Sta we passed through a series of rough reddish hills, the absolute bare of vegetation except at one spot where a few large cactus cacti were seen high above the tracks growing out of red rock. A few sparse bushes were seen in a dry stream bed. Below the tracks could be seen the narrow gorge of the Chili Pines with trees & fields under irrigation.
