Everywhere the country was covered by virgin tropical forest except where the rock slopes were too steep & smooth. Palms were very prominent feature of the hillscapes. Near the entrance of the harbor were several low hills of a rounded outline & solid yellow with many fromations surrounded close the water lines by a heavy forest of palms & other trees. On one side of the entrance formed the gigantic Sugar Port, on the other a stone walled fort while in the middle spoke channel along spell with rock with newer fortifications & disappearing guns barred the way.
