collection is even larger than the La Plata Museum in number of species but has a less number of fossil mammals. Dr. Harbene gave me several large proper monographs on the birds of Argentina which are very complete, well printed. He has divided the Argentine up into 4 faunal regions which are on a vegetable or moisture bases largely. For the past 3 days we have had heavy thundershowers at night about 8 to midnight. It took several days in the new subway school is well built with fine stations floors. Every stone of the pavement have been brought from Europe. Avencia as ballast, nothing coming by rail from the Andes yet this week! The BA population looks largely Italian & many of them speak only a muffled Spanish & Italian.
