Mon. May 31. Stem came in this pm & showed
me his Papuan & Timor mammal collections. A
young active man who leaves a good impression.
Hired me to describe the skins
he took at Timor.
Attended the Society for Dierkunde
(monthly meet) in the evening. Three papers
were read - all on hybridization.
Wed. June 1. Chapin turned up today. Has
gained 25 kilos in weight by way of looking.
Sat. June 4. Dr. Schultz-Munzinger who
has just returned from his expedition to the
Jari River, w. of north / Amazonas. Hereafter
no steaming at all here. Leave Sunday for Coyo.
Thursday, June 9. At 9 a.m. left Baden for Leyden.
A hot, dusty trip. Reached J. at 10 p.m.
Friday June 10 met Tenge (in charge birds
& mammals; Broschma (Director), and
L.D. Brongerame (Herpetology, Felidae, etc).
At very pleasant pc & we all went to the
afternoon of our third / second J pm. Intended
to find that "Mud water" Tenthrak is not a
Wombiya but a Rattus
Sat. June 11. Had lunch with the Tenge.
On Sunday we went out in the day with the Tenge to
the sand dunes at Katwijk. On Monday we were
out in the evening with the Brongerame. He
is Herpetologist & also does some things of mammals.
Thursday (typo) dinner at the house of Broschma,
thc director where met V. Becking, plant
physiologist. Sunday went with Broschma &
just of his children to Amsterdam Zoological
Gardens. The previous Friday we went to
Amsterdam to study the types of Sody's
