mm. May 31. Stein came in this pm. S showed
me his Papuan & Tsiman [illegible] collections. A
young, active man who leaves a good impression.
Told me to ahead describe the shrews
he took in Tsiman.
Attended the Society für Säugetierkunde
(monthly meet) in the evening. Three papers
were read - all on hybridization.
Wed. June 1. Chapin turned up today. Has
gained 28 kilos in weight but very fit looking.
Sat. June 4. Dr. Schultz-Kempenner who
has just returned from his expedition to the
Tari River, n. of north J Amazonas. He reports
no severans at all there. Leaves Sunday for Congo.
Thursday, June 9. At 9 a.m. left Berlin for Leyden.
A hot, dusty trip. Reached L. at 10. p.m.
Friday June 10. Met Tenge (in charge birds
& mammals; Broschme (Director); and
L.D. Brongersma (Herpetology; Felides, n).
All very pleasant people. We we at work by the
afternoon got through several types. Interesting
to find that "Mus suber" Tenthk is not a
Molomys but a Rattus.
Sat. June 11. Had lunch with the Tengos's.
On Sunday we went out in the day with the Tengos to
the sand dunes at Katwijk. On Monday we were
out in the evening with the Brongersma's. He
is Herpetologist & also does some work on mammals.
Thursday took dinner at the home of Broschme,
th director where met Dr. Becking, plant
physiologist. Sunday went with Broschme &
just of his children to Amsterdam Zoological
Gardens. The nations Friday we went to
Amsterdam to study the types of Sody's
