next I went to the museum & met the
director, Prof. Oscar de Beaux. He had had
my letter from Papua and a lot of specimens
ready for me, which act I consider exceptionally
good of him. Ellie is done here tomorrow;
I am very tired though missing my sleep last
night or something.
Tues. May 18. For several days -- in fact a week --
Ellie & I have been working at the museum. Found
most of the types and also a number of other
things of value, which I have noted down. DeBeaux
has done everything possible to help us. Today he went
over the small collection. Yesterday he took us out
to see this zoological park at Nervi.
Hope to leave in the latter part of this
week for Berlin.
Found the types of Phascolos silvicauda, bruijnii, and
dorsalis; Peroryctes longicauda; Echimypra murfensis and
aruenais; Distoechodus permatus, Dactylopsila
trivagata albertisii Pseudochirus albertisii,
and erminae; Macropus agilis papuanus;
Dendropsia Pteropus melanopogon papuana;
Entallomura beccarii; Rhinocliphus aruenais;
Papistellus papuanus, Rattus nigros Melmys
huygnii; Uromys validus; Pagonomys mollipilous;
Hydromys beccatii. Trus (s.s.) albertisii; leptmys
elegant; Rattus dorus (=beccarii); Phascolops
doreae, and melanura; Phalangula lucippus,
pymmatius and carmelitae; Tachyglossus
bruijnii.
