L.47. P.8 Have also been watching the oil on the river. While tide flows strong in and the water is deepening no oil is to be seen but directly the flood point is reached & the current checks oil appears in long streaks on the surface of the river just in front of camp. This to me suggests that the seepage is under with a close to us, the oil will be carried out tonight before it reaches the surface when rising up-hill current is running. Probably it is up rather a bit (say 50 yards). I understand that some company has a very large area under concession at the present time. The county note all about us is a fine-grained sand-stone. (Oct 2,3,4) Sept. 18th The permits shown below have been issued (ex Papua Group) to the Island Exploration Company Proprietary Limited, incorporated in Victoria.
