L23 P16. Failed to raise Orville yet no news from Archbred: Rand is going west through the swamps for a few miles. will stop for several days. Then goes for one night only. Do not consider it worth while to go down there myself but am sending one of my boys with 50 trips for a few days. Monday, Sep. 14. Only one specimen from tropics: Rattus rungeri the fruit rat which though I felt sure it must be here I had not yet taken. It had had all its "innards" devoured by some predator (probably a Kite). Boren & Rand both left when I got back, so sent my boy on by extra boat (with two left behind by Rand). Rand & Boren with their tents & gear went in two big canoes paddled by seven or eight Sukis. Healy & I are "holding the fort" here. I now redraw my plan of the lake (at least its western end, see p. 3, this letter). Savanna [illegible] Coconuts Outlet Outlet.
