"Sakis" were painted & decorating themselves with white, yellow & red paint this pm preparatory to dancing tonight. Their dance consists walking slow with the knees stiff but at the time of drums & chanting I'm not going out tonight but will note down some gotten chants. (Later). Sat a while lot of dance chants. They consist of a couple of tabs endlessly repeated. Mon Sept 7. 4 Phascogale, 4 R. machyphimus, 1 Melomys musculus, + 1 Disodon were taken in traps. -ovary sketch of reproductive tract of Phascogale. The second female Ph. had six young of quite large size. -bladder (photo graphed). Tuesday, Sept 8. Traps yielded 6 mammals - 4 Phascogale, 1 Rattus, 1 Disodon. In p.m. one of the traps brought in a ? Phelogen with one young one in pouch. After the adult had been skinned I dissected the neck muscles to see whether the hypo- -scapular muscle which I found in Dactylopsila was present. I found it easily, thh not notably developed as in that genus. Wed. Sept 9. Quite heavy rain during night, and a shower just at dawn. Only 4 mammals in traps, many of which had been snapped by the rain - Phascogale, 2 Rattus macchypimus, 1 Melomys musculus. This afternoon busy patching up holes in a canoe preparatory to putting on outboard or it so as to be able to paddle safely all over the lake. Then. Sep 10.
