To Village L.23, P.3. Diagram of Lake Daricwka swamps. grass lands Ti tree areas Junk. --- = Course taken by the "Ronald S" From W to E is probably 3 miles. The lake is fairly uniform depth except near its shores - from 9 to 12 feet. Thursday, Aug. 21, 1936. Fair night, went Jacke[ing] with light last night. No luck. This morning took Ada and the doggy and we crossed to the sawanna north of [illegible] and went over to the Tea-tree sawanna looking for wallaby. Plenty of tracks & dancing places but no animals head it often, the grass very thick. In traps 3 [illegible] of Amelomya and a Rattus brevipinnis. Heely went in a native canoe with one of his police to visit the village west of here. He says it is rather a poor example of its kind - about 10 houses. He brought back a couple of Amelmys muriculis. About 6 a whole troop of Sukis came in with 11 Phalanger mureulatus which they had caught somewhere near the river. They had skinned & some have no skulls for those. Sat. Aug. 27. Traps yielded 2 small Melomys and a small from Phalacropis like that of Peltoni Tuntori (L.17, P.14) Every why busy skinning the Phalangere's tonight in last night. High wind every morning now. Another party reached Daric at 2, a.m.
