Sat. June 27th. The flight made today which I referred to in my last letter was very interesting. The clouds were low and we flew just against the celling towards the foothills. Palmer small hills with very high south faces project from certain blucher towards the Black River. As we flew on up the winding Palmer towards the hills the foothills of Sare and Blucher filled the whole northern vision. We edged over to the east a trifle and roundly a spur of Sare made out the narrow, slit-like gorge of the Palmer ahead of us. It looked somewhat like this: cloud. We flew in along the top of the gorge towards the sun-lit-ed interior valley passing on our right the clearing on the top of Blucher formerly occupied by willis. The arable printed int Rasik was passed on my left, and the N - shaped int Mabion ahead and to the left. The clearing lay on the N or NE side of Mabion. The whole interior valley is indescribably steep and rough, and all forested. Two parachutes and three rice loads were set down in the clearing. Could see willis and a few boys standing there but not Keely who was probably exploring trail. Coming out was easy. The great Sare scar (a landslide on the limestone face) showed plainly left right, and we could look out under the clouds to see the plains. All the way out we flew above the gorge which was snow brightly
