L. 18. p. 5 and pulled across hand over hand along a rope that stretched to the shore where [illegible] Island is. The rough drawing herewith gives a general idea of the layout. Our boys worked splendidly. The plane with her pilots did very fine work (she used to take off downstream), and the entire move was a complete success. Rand said he gave away a lot of books and tobacco or gratis to the teeming multitudes left on the river banks. The flying time to the new camp was only 11 minutes; but that rough + bewildering country we crossed. It is three days on foot at least. The new station is quite attractive. In one thing it is right on the river. In another a few trees have left standing which offer partial shade. An interesting fact is that we are in a country rock of limestone now, and quantities of marine fossils are to be seen in the pebbles making up the gravel bar. But besides limestone pebbles there are quartz, hornblende granite & a much jointed Jasper-like stone as well as
