Letter 18, P. 1. June 1st - Tuesday - A tremendous rush today with the coming of the plane but particularly on account of the decision to move base camp to the junction of the Black and Palmer Rivers. The "Kono" was brought down on the Palmer just below that junction this morning, & connected with Healy and Willis there. The fact that such a landing can be made and will save days of travel has led to the above decision. Archbold + Rogers had one of the Daru Kiwai boys in the plane to help make the air deliveries, but of course that proved to be unnecessary. They stayed with us until 3 o'clock and got back to Daru at 5.15 (so Tulstedt said this morning). June 2nd Tuesday. Sent the trip out to pick up traps. Meanwhile did a bunch of packing up. Got rid of almost all my mammal specimens by the plane yesterday. When the plane reached Willis yesterday it was learned that he and Healy had not progressed beyond the Black River. We think he mistook the junction of the Tully & Palmer for that of the Palmer & Blacks, perhaps. Any how then they were, recently arrived, and only a very small clearing prepared. A female Poyomys with two young, also a reddish Rhinolephus (4 specimens) brought in today. I am very pleased to get to th. They
