And claus, mammary formula 1-2=6. The skull
is short thick, young enough for the tooth pattern
to be seen clearly, large parotid glands, quite
small eyes. On the whole one surmises that this
is a terrestrial, slightly saltatorial type of mammal of
the dog family. Possibly it represents openings made
by the fall of large front teeth. It had two
embryos- neither side. Body preserved in formalin.
The stomach contents though very finely divided suggest insect
and fruit diet.
This afternoon continued a long new tree for
tree line that I began this morning. Rebuilt my
10 experimental traps with construction bait.
Sunday, May 21. Yesterday evening managed to shoot
two of a number of small bats which fly out the
clearing at dusk & dawn (early dusk & late dawn). They
prove on examination to be members of Emballonura,
subg. Troca. Their flight is wildly erratic & butterfly-
like.
Nothing in trees unfortunately. Mammals certainly
come in slowly here. We have 9 species and only 13
openings altogether.
The macroglottus is probably distinct from the
species at Davao and Mahidulana on account of its
semi-complete lack of a tail.
Another large Hippideris was brought in and two species
