L. 17. P. 5. Note regarding Melmyns: # 2254-6 and 2268 are dark-footed; # 2263 has white hind feet. In my own trips live eel came free as a failure and in the afternoon relieved with canned salmon. A tig cassowary was shot by Ego-ego one of Pard's boys. We had some of him fried for supper. Nutris came in with screaming little bananas to sell for leaves, most of them hardly worth having. Occasionally however they dig a ripe plantain or a yam. May 23 Saturday. The plane leaves for Morisby this morning at 10 o'clock. Boy still low & rather delirious. Drops today gave nothing - the salmon m.g. as bait. Principal trouble in this place is the lack of animals. They are simply not here to be caught. Yesterday morning Simon, one of Willie's two boys was sent out. He did not want to go on. From a note which Haley sent by him the trail head must be some 8 miles this side of the Blackt River. A new find made by Gororo who was collecting "under dogs material" - the tiny name Lorentziny's the type of which is the only specimen known. A raw (not fixed). Peculiarities are the long, very narrow ears, largish upper lips (like Paralydymys), large head, very dry vibrissae, dry tail, slender hind feet,
