9.55 Large village on right bank or high mud banks 25 feet high.
Almost 7 large houses most without floors, on very large house probably
50 feet deep. Profusely shaped like huts.
About 40 people smoking tobacco around me who was eating breads and cheese like hams.
2 dogs - 1 brown, 1 black stem. Some people with white paint.
Men wore white shells, two in clean cages. Six canoes on water, canoes with log pointed ends overhanging water like those at Lake Maney.
10.38 A new shelter on right bank. No people seen.
12.50 Passed two canoes (6 men) which had been pulled in among the reeds to give us plenty of room. 1.30 lots of drift wood coming down river. 2 cubs about 30 yards across enter at right bank.
1.50. Passed two tiny islands close to left bank of river. Sawyer's cane (Calamus), actually a trailing palm very plentiful all along the river and.
2.45 Large creek (or cut off) with fairly strong current from left bank (ly almost 6 yards wide)
3.10 Passed number of trees on which quantities of flying foxes (Pteropus) were hanging occasionally flapping their wings in the sunlight.
3.15 Stuff of stream (cut-off) mentioned at 2.45. Flying foxes are therefore resting on large island.
3.35 Strong 3 mile current at sharp left hand (down) bend of river, + overflow creek ahead of it.
