Notes from Stanley's map Feb 36 (ay) 4/4 5 If the above remarks are even approximately near the truth the area lying north + north west of the Terana Plain would have functioned as a barrier against the range of the Australian faunas which was at that time ranging into the southern part of Western Division. This is not the case. The similarity of the Moesby fauna to that of the lower Fly area and north Queensland and the recent discovery of Nototherium in southeast New Guinea suggests that the exposed Torre penplain was joined across the stellar 'Gulf' to the Lehekame, Angatunga and Saloki plains. The animals which show the above type of distribution today are: Macropus agilis, Doodon moesbyensis, Rattus brachyrimus, Wromys validus. On the other hand birds + plants offer no substantiate of the above view.
