47 Frog mouth owl. Aegotheles savesi Layard Small New Caledonian Frogmouth Range.- Known from a single specimen in New Caledonia (Liverpool Museum). Description.- A nocturnal bird, like a goat-sucker, but with a larger bill. Collecting.- It is rather strange that there are no goat-suckers or frog- mouths on the Loyalty Islands. Keep your ears open for any calls during the night. If you have to wait in Noumea for a steamer, try to get this species. Search for it with a flash light. The eyes will shine like those of a cat.
