White Barn own, spots under. 9:2 Tyto alba lulu (Peale) Range.- Polynesian Islands, Aneiteum, Loyalty Island (Lifu, Maré), New Caledonia. Description.- As in southern New Hebrides, but whiter and less spotted. Collecting.- Brasil has separated the Lifu bird as lifuensis, as dif- fering from lulu by the absence of the black spots on the under parts. I have shown in Amer. Mus. Novit., No. 8281 that this subspecies cannot stand. It is desirable to have a series from Lifu to learn the extent of individual variation. Native name: Méa (Lifu), Mené (Maré).
