1991 1992 Walter D Koening Melanerpes formicivorus Blomone HNHR 27 January *Group update* jl848, 1850. NSAB. Not in AK's notes? 4 March ♀ 1167, ♀1849. Last seen 3 Dec '90, gone by 7 Jan. → D.A. 20 Dec. ± 2 wks. 9 April 1700. Walking by here I found the mummified corpse of a ♀ Mauve-LBlue/Mauve-LBlue#1849 under one of the row trees Bird recorded as "Disappeared" (last December) leading to last year's nest hole (the tree before it, to be precise). There is a hole in this tree that was a nest several years ago; it's currently plugged up (by rodents?). Not sure these 2 phenomena are related; probably not. In any case, the bird isn't is all tried out but feathers are still obvious in some areas. My guess is that it's ~1 mo old?? 2 May 845. Cleaned out the beginnings of a starling nest from last year's nest hole here. 15 May ♀1648 intruding up at Hay-Blom. See H-B notes. 15 July 1500. Group is out of stored acorns. 1992 Group abandoned as of October! 12 June ♀ 1915. Bird in new high hole in granary. Roosting? or a nest? 13 June 1000. Checked the hole by peeping it. Empty, best I could tell. False alarm. 30 August 1200. ♀ in same hole as on 12 June; I didn't hear anything when he flushed, but there could certainly be something going on there. 1 September 1030. Indeed There is! 3 opaque eggs + 1 hatchling! Clutch was apparently 4; est LED = 21 August! Note that this
