1992 Walter D Koenig Melanerpes formicivorus Lower Haystack HNHE (9 June) 1115. Well, There are 3 birds just like there are supposed to be, plus, I sure can't find any sign of a nest. I pretty much believe there isn't one at this point. 16 June 1500. A fair number of acorns remain here. 1 July 1430. Hung out here for 1/2 hr or so, but the place was completely dead. Didn't even see the birds over past far Tortuga. Certainly no sign of a nest. 30 August 1100. Bird flushed from the traditional hole in the granary, but it's empty. Otherwise there are still some stores left there in the granary but no sign of a nest.
