1991 1992 Walter D Keenig Melanerpes fomiticivorus Chongt HNHE 31 December 945. No acorns stored here; no sign of a group. Presumably abandoned this fall (fide Connie). 1992 19 January *Group Update* These birds, which were here in June, are abandoned by Nov. 15th -> Abandoned (NSA so far) 1 Sept. ± 1 month. 23 April Connie reports a pair (probably NOBA) here! So I watched roosting tonight - both roosted in the granary in the horizontal (i.e., not vertical) hole. Ambush time! 24 April 900. Set the ambush here. 25 April 430. Got them both. The ♂ is banded, ♀ NOBA -> 2021. 4 May 1100. None in either of the holes. 11 May 1100. Still none in either hole. Checked them both as well: empty (but in good shape). A bird came and checked me out while I was in the tree, so they may be interested. 14 May 1530. None in the holes. 18 May 1350. 6 October 1520. Trying for one of The babies for Stanback 1640. Birds are here, but wary and not feeding. Will try tomorrow. 7 October 810. Back again. 855. j2114 fed, but at hole! May be too late already. 940. Quitting. Don't think I'll get them, but I may try one more time depending. 9 October 830. Banded and bled The 2 babies here.
