Melanerpes fomincirous
Arnold!
(20 April)
Also note that Philip's ratio-tracking lots of birds
here; he ambushed ~10d ago and tracked 81795,
1027, 1796, & 1798 (he also tried to track 81799, but
the bird was very weak and died shortly after release).
Today he reattached a new radio to 81027 (who had
lost his), gave 81222 & 81563 radios, and T-implanted
81795. Lots going on here! Unfortunately, with
861026 & 1340 still unpainted it may still be all but
impossible to do mate-guarding here.
26 May
1945. Morné watched tonight: 81222 roosted
here for sure along with (probably but not
definitely) 81027.
31 May
As far as Morné could tell, nobody roosted in the nest
tonight (!!) even though the babies are in there and the birds
were roosting nearby. They're too young for this... what's
up.
8 June
1145. After another apparent no-show at the nest last night
I climbed up to check: 2 babies, looking fine.
14 June
Morné watched here tonight and got 81222 roosting
by himself in the nest!
19 June
2000. I flushed 2 birds out of the hole at about 1940;
nobody came back.
