(25 April) parasite boards, one in the bottom of the hole and one nailed
to the cutout. (Thumbtacks are the likely answer to how to
keep these intact.) Presumably I'll remove these after
1-2 days.
29 April Mark finally took the boards out - the one nailed to the
cutout looked empty, but the other was crawling with lice!
Also - 6 birds were ~3 to today, so each board was in for
(4 d total)
[illegible] of incubation + 3d of nestlings. Looks good!
8 May 1930. Watched roosting at the nest tonight and
unambiguously identified 8 or 1385 roosting alone
by himself in the nest.
10 May 1930. Tonight, both 8 or 1385 and 8 DB/DB 1388
roosted in the nest together.
15 May 1945. 2 birds roosted in the nest again tonight, One was
81385, the other zipped in so fast I missed him/her.
(Presumably it was 81388, but I can't be sure.)
21 May 1945. Only "speedy" roosted in the nest tonight, again
being so fast I missed him completely. Again I
can guess it's 81388, but it's only a guess. It
probably isn't 81385.
22 May 1945. Once again, "speedy" roosted in the nest by himself.
I was ready for him this time though, and ambushed the
nest. Imagine my surprise to find a 8 NOBA (now 81917)!!
Especially with no bag - I had to hand carry him down the
tree and to the lab.
So who is this bird? Possibilities would seem to be
