(30 May) The guy at "The Junction" was the one who told us
that The Stoddards are the big land owners here
(including The Junction, apparently). [The Y ranch
is just a small inholding.] He seemed to feel that
bird watchers were just a short step above horse thieves
as well. In any case, we got all the babies back
by 1600.
Mark had the inspiration to paint their crowns
to look like Acorn Woodpeckers using lots of white-out
and an orange paint marker. They ended up eerily
like Al when they were done. We then did the best
we could to divey them up, and got all in by dark-
except those waited for CV Orange, which we did
the next morning. The final distribution was as
follows:
Plaque 2 (1 killed!)
Refute 1
Gazebo 2
CV Orange 3
CVI 1
MPHF 1
Murf 1 (the runt of one of the litters)
School Hill 1
We'll see what happens! Keep your fingers crossed!
June Banding Plaque, Gazebo, CVI, & SHill today. All OK except
for Plaque, where they had killed 1 of the LW plus one of their
own babies! (see MTS notes for details).
