1991 1992 Walter D Koening 3 Melanerpes formicivorus Finch HUNGRY (21 April) Presumably they showed up last fall, were missed this winter, and have recently run out of acorns and may have already abandoned. 1 July 955. Set up to get the ♀ NOBA. 1200. 8164! (finally) fed. 1st feeding so far! 1220. And 81637. So where's the ♀? 1255. Giving up. Try again tomorrow. Very hot today. 2000. I missed his bands but based on his rather distinctively scruffy face I'm sure that 8164! roosted in the nest tonight. 2 July 545. Set up again. 630. Got her! Now 92013. Released at 820 4 July 715. Back for the recapture. 840. Both ♂♂ feeding, but no ♀ yet. 1100. Looking grim. ♀ came once but the bobber inexplicably fell down, scaring her away at the critical moment. 1150. Bad luck at this one! ♀ never returned after the one attempt. Giving up. 7 July 1130. Banded and bled the 3 babies here. 1992 1 January 1000. No stored acorns here in either tree! 19 January But there are birds here (as of October). 4 April 1300. Still no stores here. 21 October 800. Ambushed here this morning after 2 ♂♂ roosted in the high cycamore hole but alas! only 92615 emerged.
