Melanerpes formicivorus

(8 May) Meanwhile, the 2 helper ♀♀ would almost certainly
appear to have gone, as a result of the ♀ turnover if not
earlier:
♀1741 last seen 9 Jan gone by 12 March → DA 10 Fe6 ± 1 month
♀1889 " " 12 March gone by 6 April → DA 25 Mar ± 2 wks
12 May
640. Watching. (1) 6 da/yel #1585.
710. Going to road hole, though not enough to suggest eggs or laying yet.
(3) ♂ LB-w/m #1582. (3) ♀ Red/LE-DA ??? Not quite #1415... OK. It is R-16/DA #1415.
730.♀ R/M #1473 here. Birds also still paying some attention to
both holes in the vertical limb.
745. Leaving. Still looking promising but not there yet.
13 May
700. Still farting around in all 3 holes, at least.
800. Some mate-guarding (such as it is) data on back.
14 May
640-815. Some more (lack of) mate-guarding. Some Interest in
all 3 holes continues. Wood chips still being removed from the
road hole; I think they're close but not there yet.
*Group Update*
♀91415, 1473 moved here ~15 April ± 2 wks (from Cazebo)
These birds moved in after the former breeder ♀♀
here (who are presumably the mothers of the breeder
88) abdicated (invest avoidance!) and shifted to
Gate (note that they'd been playing with This
all winter). Actually, only ♀1571 definitely
went through with this; ♀1688 has disappeared
and could very well have gone elsewhere.
Both events will sort of arbitrarily be placed on
1 April.
