1991 1992 Waltford Koening 2 Melanerpes formicivorus LPHF HNHE (14 June) Checking the granary, it's mostly empty but I actually did see what appeared to be 2 intact stored acorns. Not sure what to make of that. 15 July 1530. Out of stores here. 1992 22 April 730. ♀ M/Light-? #1863 flycatching in the granary. 245. The ♂ here is drumming and occasionally quacking - is he new? 800. ♂ M/DB-Yci(N) #1862. Would appear not; he's just on edge, I guess... 29 April 810. Bird in last year's nest hole. Bingo! 3 eggs, fresh but all somewhat dirty - apparently none laid today. 1 May 830. Now 4 eggs in the hole! They weren't done after all. 9 May 1020. 2 eggs, opaque, plus 2 hatchlings in the hole. Set up an ambush. 1730. Still 2 eggs, 26 days: Blue, left: 6.0 g Blue, Right: 5.4 g 25 May 1100. Set up to try for the ♀. 1230. No luck. Giving up, for now at least. 26 May 805. Trying again. 1015. Got her finally! 1030. While waiting, I weighed the kits: 70.8 (46); 78.7 (47), Pretty healthy! 28 May 915. Back to try for the receptance. 1130. ♂ 1862 feeding, but no ♀ as yet. 1300. That's it. I give up. No ♀.
