(Connie): 1779,1780,(1961,1964,1965→NSAB)→D.A. 15 Aug ± 2 mo. 4 April 1430. Bird in a hole here—the season’s first nest?? 10 April 1630. Set out a feeder in the (uphill!) nest tree here; this is a supplemented group. 16 April 1700. Bird in last year’s nest hole: empty. Egg-tossing maybe? Have set an ambush for Mark & will watch tonight. 22 April 625. Watching from blind, Video set at ‘90 nest hole. No eggs here yet but there was lots of activity in this hole yesterday and they are clearly close, if not already egg-tossing. 800. No activity here except for when a Starling came and briefly checked out the hole and was summarily chased off by at least 1 Woodpecker. Otherwise dead, here and, as far as I could tell, at the other likely holes as well. Not yet, I guess! 23 April 615. Set up and watching again; VCR running. Can see holes better today, in case there’s activity somewhere else. 720. Birds up in the tree just behind me, but no sign of a hole back there. 800. One again, none came to any of the holes. Egg-laying must still be a couple days away, I should think. 24 April 620. Bird in high hole in last year’s nest tree. Set up VCR on the hole from ground, but had to go back. 710. Back.
