(28 April)
715. Argh'. Hole is several inches deeper than last year; could
not reach the bottom! But based on probing with a stick,
I don't think there was an egg.
725. Have to leave. Moni will watch for a bit, I hope.
1330.
Moni reports: ♀1533 spent more time inside; ♀1531
went to hole once but did not go in. Mark later peeped
the hole to find 1 egg (normal). Hence: today, at least,
♀1533 laid, not tossed as of ~1000 or so.
1400. Opened the hole: 1 egg still there (marked #1). It
is quite spherical.
1630. Still 1 egg. Set up to videotape tomorrow morning.
29 April
610. Still the #1 egg in hole! Set up the video camera and
watching.
800. Well! ♀1533 laid, ♀1531 tossed; unfortunately, this
all happened in an entirely different hole than the one ♀1533
laid in yesterday. Watched ♂1613 eat some of the egg at 815.
830. ♀1531 in hole - she could have laid also. Unfortunately
the hole is too deep.
1000. Hole empty. I don't think ♀1531 laid; ♀1533 was
in the hole afterwards and didn't toss anything.
I also got mate-guarding (such as it were) on the birds;
see back.
30 April
1000. Watched again this morning. This time they were going
into yet another (unopened) hole, which meant that I'm
not sure if anyone laid or not. ♀1533 went in ~725, later
♀1531 went in and did not toss. I left not too long afterwards
and by the time I got back to open the hole it was empty.
