1992 Walter D. Koenig Melanerpes formicivorus OK Corral HNHR 30 June 1145. Back to try for the ♂. 1212. ♀2118 fed. 1220. ♂1394 fed. 1315. No sign of ♂NOBA; other 2 feeding fairly regularly. 1350. Gave up and caught ♂1394 for blood! Also took the babies and banded them as #2119-2122. 4 July 515. Caught ♂1394 and ♀2118 roosting together in The tree just up from The nest tree; I just let both go after they finally came out of The hole. Meanwhile, this means that the 3rd bird, which Jim saw go into the roost hole last night, was indeed ♂NOBA. Maybe I'll try there tonight. 2015. None roosted in The nest tonight. However, it turns out that there was 1 dead, smelly chick inside (DD-whitN/white); so perhaps That's why he didn't go in. (The other 3 are OK.) 29 August 515. Ambushed at 2 of the holes (connected) in The '92 1st nest tree, but it was mostly a dud- there appears to be yet a third exit up higher on The limb! However, there was one bird inside - a ♀ NOBA! In the old days I'd say we screwed up somehow, but of course we know now that she could very well be a floater. (Then again, I believe there was supposedly both ♂NOBA ♂ and ♀ hanging out here last spring, so maybe this is The latter?) She's now #2136. 3 November 700. Ambushed at a new hole in the Sycamore, but only 1 bird (♂2121) roosted in it.
