June 4, J. 1991 Journal Never Sink, Curecanti National Recreation Area, approx 12 miles W. Granby, Grand Co, Colorado. Elevation [illegible]. June 18 Sink, Curecanti National Recreation Area, along the Green (Creek) River. This is a cottonwood-alder dominated riparian setting with much of the understory provided by young trees of the dominant species. There was a nearly continuous carpet of green grass 6-8" high. A spend 10:30 to 11:30 walking the well-worn riverside trail. Also present in quantity were coyote willow, numerous fife, numerous rag- ciwld along the latter being dandelions. Weather here was partly cloudy, very little breeze, temperature about 70°F. Species list: Herp: wandering garter snake - 1, 20" Birds: Great Blue Heron - 2 ad Red-winged Blackbird - 18 Spotted Sandpiper - 2 pro Warbling Vireo - 29 Common Nightingale - 2 Yellow Warbler - 30 Broad-tailed Hummingbird - 4 F Song Sparrow - 8 N. Flicker - 1 H.O. Brown-headed Cowbird - 12 W. Wood Pewee - 2 Bell's Vireo - 4 Tree Swallow - 2 S Cassin's Finch - 1 S Violet-green Swallow - 60 Pine Siskin - 3 N. Rough-winged Swallow - 3 Lesser Goldfinch - 5 (incl. 2 Cliff Swallow - 85 ad. green-backed ??) House Wren - 15 H.O. manual: golden mantled ground squirrel. Canon City, Fremont Co, Colorado. Elevation 5372 ft. June 18-19 From Curecanti NRA, I drove E on U.S. Highway 50 through Granby, over Monarch Pass, past Salida and into Canon City. After stopping at the Chamber of Commerce, I went
