June 11-17 more maps (Coit) Cub Creek drainage N <--1/4 mile--> GREEN RIVER RANCH HQ CHEW RANCH BOUNDARY ROAD COTTONWOOD DRAINATED RIPARIAN WOODLAND UNDERSTORY FAIRLY WELL DEVELOPED. ** BLM LANDS MUTELY OVERGRAZED GRASS/BRUSH WITH GREASEWOOD, BIG SAGEBRUSH, CANE CRAGLA ROAD MAINTENANCE EQUIP. PARKING BOX ELDER DRAINATED RIPARIAN WADDS. ** UNDERSTORY PLANTS INCLUDE COYOTE WILLAW, SQUAWBUSH, GRAPE, GRASSES. Creek gradient very mild. In most places, rocky uplands were 50-75 yards from the creek, but rocks and eastern slopes closely confined the stream in several places. Rocks close to creek often decorated with pictographs or petroglyphs. I awoke June 15 and moved two nets (opening the other two) to the canyon riparian woodland along the unnamed creek in the south part of the ranch. I spent the morning running from net to net to net to net. Highlights was finding a trio of adults Lasson goldfinches at a meal (5A); these were subsequently collected by shotgun. The mist nets were relatively un- American productive, with but 2 lessons taken on the ranch property. I spent most of the afternoon putting up the birds (nets closed from 12:00-18:00).
