Palo Duro Canyon State Park, 18 miles E. of Canyon Randall & Armstrong Counties,
Texas.
June 23-24 I scouted by automobile two length of the stream within easy walking
(Cock) distance of the park road. Browsing areas were explored on foot, but I
found no goldfinches June 23.
Weather June 23 was windy & otherwise pleasant. Winds came up
about 09:30 and swirled in the canyon bottom, tharge the light clouds
that appeared after 11:00 blew consistently, W->E all day. Temperatures
ranged from 70°F- 95°F-80°F.
On June 24 I repeated the survey of the riparian areas of the park, this
time visiting the downstream half or so of area in easy walking distance
from the road. This section had almost all the promising habitat. Again,
I saw no goldfinches. The only creature I saw in this park were two three
that came to my cage birds while I was packing up to leave midmorning.
I left the park at 10:15.
Weather this morning was very pleasant. There was a light dew, only slight
haze and no clouds. Temperature 70-80°F.
