July 18-21 I returned to Santa Fork Kern River from Sacramento via California
State Highway 99 to Bakersfield to Hwy 178 beyond Lake Isabella to
Sierra Way to the trailhead for the Wildlife Area, arriving 19:00 in
time to set up nets for the morrow. The detour away from Santa Fork
Kern River was necessary to provide care for my daughters while my
wife was away at her family practice recertification exams. In
laying out the mist nets, I discovered an area in which Lawrence's
Goldfinch were very common. Here I set up 2 nets. The site 2
was placed well far from the parking area of the trailhead. Fun to find.
