June 23-24 I retraced my route back to Cañon City, in hopes of collecting at least a few typespecies. On my return, I left a note of thanks on the locked door of the BLM office, rented a motel room for the night, and dined at a local restaurant.
Beginning about 19:00, I walked the River Walk once again, this time seriously looking for wet sites in the vegetation. I saw greater floristic diversity than I noticed on my earlier trip. Besides cottonwoods, other significant woodland tree species include box elder, willow, locust, mulberry (in fruit) and Siberian elm. Understory plants commonly found were grape, poison ivy, coyote wilery, and Virginia creeper.
There were scores of people using the park, and I was therefore loathe to dry my nets out for evening set-up. I noted where two nets could be set up easily and safely, by flashlight if need be, early the following morning, and left the park at 20:15.
