TROHET, JOHN 1989 Journal 7. Juni Audien Reservation, McKinley Co, New Mexico July 30 are some 30-40 medium size (15-20', 8-14" dbh) Gambel's Oaks growing (cont) against the NINE facing rimrock. The area surrounding the brogue is a juniper savanna, except on the lake side, where there is a 30-75' margin of crypta willows, except in the far SW part of the brogue, where medium size cottonwoods grow right to the edge of emergent rushes & sedges. site map SILVER-LEAF POPLARS BASALT RIMROCK JUNIPERS ZUNI RIVER STREAM CHANNEL BLACK ROCK LAKE NORTH COAST COUNTRIES "PARK" ELEVATION 6435' JUNIPERS RECENTO BURN LAMBAY POPLARS BRUSHY FIELD WIDELY SCATTERED JUNIPERS <1/4 MILE> I set up mist nets on the NE margins of the "park" in the brogue, and near the large cottonwoods growing over the steep on the south bank of the Juni River below Blackrock Dam, opposite the confluence of Sand Spring Wash. I caught a variety of birds, but no goldfinches. I resorted to my shotgun in midafternoon, starting one bird at a song about 150 yards below the den and a few others around the E margin of the "park" in Blackrock Brogue. Weather today was clear in the morning, partly cloudy in the afternoon. No real threat of rain today. Winds were light SW 5 mph after 11:30. Temperature today 58° - 85° - 70° F. Species list.
