August 11 Having already pulled a couple ash-throated flycatchers out of my notes here, and many others before elsewhere, I didn't immediately recognize this bird as different as I approached the net. Up close, the larger size and much darker bill were apparent. I checked the tail pattern and breast color against my National Geographic Field Guide to North American Birds, and conclude that it is this species.
