San Pedro River Riparian National Conservation Area Yuma, S. of Arizona Highway 90 Bridge Cochise Co. Arizona. Elev. 4120 ft.
August 24
This was a day very like yesterday, except that I had less setting success, and I therefore spent time moving nets, which were on from 05:05 to 14:30.
Weather: Temp 70-85°. Like yesterday, but mild N. & NE. breezes about 3 mph blew from dawn to noon, when the breezes became scuttlely. Then cirrus clouds appeared, were to E & W. over mountains. Wind died after sunset.
August 25
Activities ditto yesterday, coupled with moving nets twice. This was a successful day. I netted six birds early (→ specimens) and two late, which will be the nucleus of my San Pedro River addition to my captive force at the Behavin Station.
Weather - Temperatures 65° (cool before sunrise only, in the stream drainage) - 90°. Cloudless day. NE winds 2-3 mph at dawn until 10:00. Light SW afternoon breeze until 13:50, when there became gusty SW 10-20, abating after sunset.
August 26
I ran my nets only from 05:10 to 08:40, by which time I had far more lesser goldfinches for transport to the Behavin Station. I took down my nets and returned to camp for a late breakfast and to write up these notes.
Weather this morning: clear, light variable breezes, temps 70-85°F.
Species list for San Pedro River RNCA - August 22-26:
