August 18 (Cont)
The few low shrubs provided no shade. Casual packs got wet in too afternoon. I put up my nets late and caught no birds. I set me a sunned but it got stuck high in the tree.
Weather partly cloudy and windy, Wind SW 15-30 all afternoon. Temps 80-90 F.
August 18
I row my nets from 06:00 - 12:15, and the six birds I got kept me away for the rest of the day. It's just as well since the afternoon was so windy.
Weather - clear dawn, with clouds threatening 10:30-11:30, coming in from S. though virtually no surface wind until 12:30. Midday & late afternoon partly cloudy with strong S winds 15-35 mph, which almost blew my exposed tent away! Temperatures 60-90 F.
August 20
I again row my nets, beginning at 06:05 and quitting at 12:30 due to high winds again. I fed for less luck today, and moved my nets at midday. After lunch, I went out with tape recorder and shotgun, but I didn't obtain any additional birds.
Weather saw NW 2-5 mph breezes at clear dawn. A few cumulus clouds drifted over at midday, but the heavy thunder-storm activity was well to the E. At midday the wind picked up and shifted to the S, 10-20 mph. Temps: 65-95 F. Ponds are drying up, and the river is much lower today.
