TASCHET J. 1990 Journal 38 Wallowa County Park on N. bank of the Rogue River, 7 miles N. of Grants Pass Josephine Co., Oregon. July 25 I saw one red-tailed hawk. Most of the ground cover is short (coat) grass, and there are picnic tables and a playground. There are thicket of small oaks mostly on the perimeter. In the floodplain, trees include poplar, 2-3 spp. willow, a few maples, aspen walnut (?), with poplars by far the greatest trees, to 90-100 ft. The largest trees are against the bench. There are lots of blackberry thickets. Other understory includes elderberry and willow. There is lots of star thistle and some large thistle, too, along with star wildflowers and several grasses. Near the banks of the Rogue River one finds mostly bare gravel with inter- sperated willow thickets. I found surprisingly few lesser goldfinches. This area looks like really good habitat. Weather today was partly cloudy until 11:20, then clear to 14:00 when I left. Temperatures 58°=72° F. Very light w. breeze. Species list: Amphibians: none sp Reptiles: garter snake (?) sp.
