Elevation 375 feet July 24 In the first hour of light I drove most of the perimeter of Fern Ridge Reservoir, making at 1/2 minute stop at Perkins Peninsula. On Dirk's suggestion I then went to the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife's East Croyle Creek area. This is a mostly mixed broadleaf forest in a spacious setting. I worked this area from 87:15 to 13:00 and found no lesser goldfinches. After a quick lunch, I checked a couple less promising areas around the impoundment perimeter, again without luck, and left the area at 16:00. Weather here: Temperatures 62-70°F, winds less than 5mph out of N.W.; solidly cloudy until 10:05, with drizzle until 08:00, then partly cloudy until I left the area. I then drove to Roseburg, Douglas Co., Oregon, where I walked a 2/3 mile stretch of the Umpqua River along
