TROCHET, JOHN 1989 Journal 24. Washington Ranch, adjacent to Lattlesnake Springs portion of Carlsbad Caverns National Park, Eddy Co., New Mexico. Elevation 3650 ft. August 3 I set up my nets near the NPS property boundary near pond called "Pond 4" on yesterday's map at 06:30 (about 20 min. for drive to first light). I succeeded in catching many birds, but no lesser goldfinches. At midday I secured permission to shoot birds in the afternoon, when returned clients would be indoors, from Mr. Burton. I then obtained a few birds along the Black River and at a patch of sunflowers in the central grassy agricultural field (35 one ard.). I left at 16:15. Weather: dawn clear, 65°F -> scattered clouds, 75°F by 11:00 -> mostly cloudy, 90°F by 13:00; shower & lightning 15:45. Species List: Rufous-sided Towhee - 1 Lapland Longspur - 15 Birds: Anna's Hummingbird - 10 Turkey Vulture - 15 N.
